{ Pine Creek Gorge } PA Grand Canyon Day Trip from York, PA | Personal Travel Photo Story

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

Growing up, I never truly understood what the beauty of fall was like. I grew up in sunny Southern California, where changes in seasons were slight variations of summer. When I'd look at default desktop backgrounds of fall scenery, I thought they were edited in Photoshop!

Then, I moved to Pennsylvania. The changes in seasons mesmerized me! Fall quickly became my favorite season because of the mild weather but also because of the beautiful, fall foliage. As we'd drive around, I'd exclaim to Nathan, "I found fall!" He got tired of that pretty quickly, considering the fact that we live in an area enveloped in a blanket of fall colors.

We had heard of the "Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania" and decided to go on a day trip to see all that we had heard about. The drive up was absolutely gorgeous! When we finally arrived to the area, we stopped at Wellsboro to get some local, insider tips about the canyon. After walking around the cute town that was all decorated for the harvest season, we got a bite to eat at a cute cafe named Native Bagel.

Then, the real adventure began! We explored both sides of the canyon. At Leonard Harrison State Park, the east rim of the canyon, we were able to enjoy the expanse of the overlook before trekking the extremely steep Turkey Path Trail. Throughout our hike, we enjoyed the Four-Mile Run creek and several large waterfalls. Then, we drove over to Colton Point State Park where we watched the sunset together, perched on the side of a cliff. This was our favorite view of the canyon, and of course, the autumn leaves were spectacular here too! During our drive back home that same day, we finished listening to a whole audio book (The Scarlet Pimpernel) and even saw a baby bear cross the road right in front of us!
